Sata hdd not detected

Hello,
i have an asrock p4vm800 and all along i was using 40gb ide and sata dvd writer,i then bought a 160gb sata harddrive but cannot be detected but its working on another machine .all sata connecters r working and sata dvdwriter is fine/please help
