I'll try to make this as easy to understand as possible.
I was running a very recent security update from Windows Updater. In the midst of its install, my laptop crashed, forcing a reboot.
This is an ACER netbook that uses Windows XP.
Starting it up from here, I'm taken to the start-up mode choosing screen.
Run Windows Normally - Screen freezes, nothing happens.
Last Known Good Configuration - Screen goes black, freezes, shuts off after several minutes.
Any kind of Safe Mode - Loads a list of processes, stops at mup.sys and freezes.
During the start-up, I had hit the escape key several times which brought up a different interface. After some time, it displayed a message. "Operating System not found."
I've had no luck in recovering my computer thus far. Normally, I'd try a system CD, but the netbook I use has no CD-Rom drive. Are there any options available for trying to fix this computer, or am I better off trashing it at this point?
