Need to increase bittorrent download speed

Hello,
I'am using MTNL USB - Modem. I'am using bittorrent for downloading torrent files. I 'am getting speed upto 1 kbps, So it is really very difficult to download Movies and PC games. Please tell me the best suitable way to increase my bittorrent download speed.

System configuration:

Mozilla Firefox 3
Windowz XP
512 RAM
Pantium 4.

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.5.3
