Hello,

I don't understand how it happened, but now both of my computers are unable to read my USB flash drive. It contains extremely important documents that I can't afford to lose. Is there any means to get those lost files?

Configuration: Windows XP
Safari 532.0

As long as the flash drive can be seen as a (removeable) drive then you may be able to recover your files.

You can very often recover deleted files from a memory card or USB Memory stick.

However, and this is really important, to increase the chances of being able to recover files after they have been deleted you must not save any new files, files or data to it.

When you delete files (or any files) from a memory card or USB memory device the data itself isn’t deleted, just the file system pointers that says where the data for those files is located. The area where the deleted picture data was stored is also now marked as free space so it is available to the system for any new files to be written there instead.

If and when that happens, then it is too late to recover your deleted files so it is very, very important that new files or files aren’t saved to the memory card in the meantime.

One of the easiest ways to see if your deleted files can be recovered is to try some file recovery software.

One tip is to try a demo version of a commercial product that will scan the memory card for deleted files and show you exactly what files can be recovered. At least that will show you if you can recover the deleted files or if it’s too late already. You can find more useful information on recovering deleted files from a flash card or memory card at http://www.repaircorruptfile.com/Recover-Deleted-Files.html

I really don't support using data recovery softwares because many times i have ended with a critical situation using these softwares. USB Drives or Flash Drives are the Solid State Drives that depends upon the functions and the design so data recovery softwares are not the ultimate answers for safe recovery. I prefer data recovery experts who can really help you out with data recovery and with no damages in your drive. One of the best i know from my personal experience is www.eprovided.com. The company is renowned and has reasonable price for your headache.
