Hello,
A while back I bought a Dell Optiplex 210L on ebay. It's been great till recently when the system crashed and it will not boot. I tried to use thr XP recovery console but it wants an admin password which I do not have. Is there any way to access the recovery console with out the password? I see that there are fixes to this if you have access to the comnputer, which of course I do not. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Don1400

Hi Don1400,
well if you dont have the administrator password you cant do something. you must have it in order to use recovery console. what i would advise you instead is to repair the windows you will use your drivers but not your works. Sometimes when windows crashes you cant repair it and the only way is to format your computer.

Hope that this will help you.

Regards

Reboot your machine.

Press F8 before the Windows boot screen appears.

Do not press F5 as used on the NT/9x series of Windows.

You will be be prompted with a boot options menu.

Select the Start Windows in Safe Mode option.

Click through several self-explanatory screens until your reach the familiar 'Welcome' screen.

Note that this welcome screen is limited to 256 colors and 640x480 resolution because the primary graphics will have been set to the Windows Safe Mode software VGA adapter. You will not be able to change this mode even in Display options, while Windows is running in Safe Mode.

Find the icon for the Administrator user. If the default settings of your system haven't been changed, there should be no password for this account.

The Safe Mode Welcome screen might display some of the other users on your system.

Login as the admin.

Press Yes at the prompt asking if you would like to continue using Safe Mode.

Continue on to the User Settings control panel. Here you can change any of the other passwords for user on the machine. Make any changes you want.

Reboot your computer. As long as you don't press any keys (i.e. F8) during the boot-up the computer will startup normally.

Login as the user for which you set the password.

I have tried to logon in safe mode but no icons come up. When i run thr repair from my xphome cd it freezes at the welcome to windows screen saying please wait with the hourglass showing. Any suggestions would be helpful. I can't run the recovery console because it asks for a password which i never had. I used the security hole (SHIFT F10) and typed NUSRMGR.CPL @ the cmd prompt and then typed control userpasswords2 for no password and now it says wrong user go to control panel which i can't access.

Thanks

Look, pressing F8 may not work on your system, or his system, but it worked perfectly on mine, so keep in mind that your computer isn't like everyone else's and his advice could have easily helped me a lot, the only reason it didn't is because I already learned that a few days ago. It works on my computer and my moms but doesn't work on my brother's.

You may NOT boot windows in safe mode and change any password i think Mr Gates would have this one covered. To Mr comuter wizz ( NOT ) what would be the point of protecting your data with a security password if you could simply log on in safe mode and gain entry to all the user accounts ! You must be some sort of moron !!!!!!!

There are ways to gain entry to your system but it is complicated and with many risks. Try www.d--bwebpark.pl or take your pc to a reputable computer engineer. I hope this is more help to guys than idiotic suggestions of booting in safe mode.

I am not sure why you like to call people disparaging names. You have not provided a solution to the ascribed problem except to point them to an engineer. I got news for you buddy! It doesn't take an engineer to fix a computer. Sure you might have been easily fooled into thinking that, but you are sadly mistaken! It doesn't take a computer engineer to fix this computer problem. Any experienced computer builder would know how to solve the mentioned dilemma. Sheesh!. Are you so hard up for money that you are trying to trick people into hiring you to fix an easy problem.

I agree NT Password is one of the best programs I have ever used. I paid for it and it has been in my toolbox ever since. it is a very valuable tool for anyone who works on computers.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When called and asked to work on a computer that is not working, always check the nut behind the keyboard first during an extensive interview of the problem that the computer is having. It can tell you a lot.... Like for instance, I got called to work on a computer one night at around 130 am, the person made it sound as if it was life threatening. So I get there (as I said always ask before going, in this case I did not) and the person says it wont turn on, it was working then all of a sudden it quit and wont turn back on. Well after finally asking what they were doing at time when their computer was working, I came to a conclusion and figured I test it out. I got computer working and asked the person to demonstrate what they were doing at the time the computer went out. Again the computer turned off..... They were like why does it keep doing that, I gladly smiled and asked the person to pull their chair away from the desk, and there their answered laid. "They were hitting the off button on the powerstrip with their foot" I suggested moving the power-strip and with that the problem was solved.... As I said ask questions before going, I made my own classical mistake and learned from it.....

I have a dell PC with the checksum blue screen error. Trying to recover Windows from recivery CD prompts for type 1 for C: which I did. BUT then it asks for Admin pwd. I have a Admin user account, but it does not like the password. I never had a poweron password. I cant get to the PF8 safemode screen either. My goal here is to recover files from my desktop... which I cannot access to if I use the original HD as a slave drive. I need to be able to boot up using original HD with original settings. Suggestions welcome. Snoop Dogg.

I was deleting registry values and corrupted the system32/software registry hive. Recovery console also was asking me for a password which I didn't have. Egad, this worked for me... I was trying to run the recovery console with a XP SP1 setup disk. When I used a XP SP2 setup disk to enter the recovery console, it also asked for a password. I left it blank and hit enter and SCORE, I was in the recovery console and was able to fix my registry problem. Hope it works for you, good luck!!!

1. Place your Windows XP CD in your cd-rom and start your computer (its assumed here that your XP CD is bootable as it should be - and that you have your bios set to boot from CD)

2. Keep your eye on the screen messages for booting to your cd Typically, it will be Press any key to boot from cd

3. Once you get in, the first screen will indicate that Setup is inspecting your system and loading files.

4. When you get to the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to Setup Windows now

5. The Licensing Agreement comes next - Press F8 to accept it.

6. The next screen is the Setup screen which gives you the option to do a Repair.

It should read something like If one of the following Windows XP installations is damaged, Setup can try to repair it

Use the up and down arrow keys to select your XP installation (if you only have one, it should already be selected) and press R to begin the Repair process.

7. Let the Repair run. Setup will now check your disks and then start copying files which can take several minutes.

8. Shortly after the Copying Files stage, you will be required to reboot. (this will happen automatically you will see a progress bar stating Your computer will reboot in 15 seconds

9. During the reboot, do not make the mistake of pressing any key to boot from the CD again! Setup will resume automatically with the standard billboard screens and you will notice Installing Windows is highlighted.

10. Keep your eye on the lower left hand side of the screen and when you see the Installing Devices progress bar, press SHIFT + F10. This is the security hole! A command console will now open up giving you the potential for wide access to your system.

11. At the prompt, type NUSRMGR.CPL and press Enter. Voila! You have just gained graphical access to your User Accounts in the Control Panel.

12. Now simply pick the account you need to change and remove or change your password as you prefer. If you want to log on without having to enter your new password, you can type control userpasswords2 at the prompt and choose to log on without being asked for password. After youve made your changes close the windows, exit the command box and continue on with the Repair (have your Product key handy).

Raul, I have XP pro sp3. I believe that my operating system may be corrupted by spyware (spydoctor). I say this because I downloaded spydoctor and ran scan. Removed identified malware and tried to reboot. System would not reboot. Either I downloaded a malware thinking it was spydoctor or the virus software has damaged my operating system. Using xp repair mode, I replaced my operating system files (system, software, sam, security, default). This allowed me to boot my operating system. However, when my system attempts to startup it loads and saves settings then asks for administrator password. I know my password. System will not accept the password. When I enter my adm password startup begins and loops to request for adm password again. Any suggestions.

HI

Use ERD Command Editor, which is a 55MB software download from the below link
http://rapidshare.com/files/113560492/ERD.Commander.2008.CrOwN.rar
and the password for the RAR archive is "munda"
It is an image file(ISO).
Burn on to a disk and reboot ur system.

It appears as ur windows xp.....

From here u can change ur admin passwords.

OHH ATITUDE if you hate microsoft dont use it it is as simple as it is you can try a shit os like linux and ubantu or a mac soo please think before u speak and once again i am not arrogent it is how pleple think

I dunno about the attitude but you do seem you are arrogant. Linux is one ofthe best Os ever created. Mac has the best software and the crapiest hardware ever created. HOWEVER the reason why windows is so good is because winodws is the only-actually WAS only, compaitble muliti ATX/ISA architecture around.

Linux is FAR superiour to windows. However linux needs to find a decent GUI. u know microsoft once was into Linux. and actually wrote some code for it. then later pulled it. U know y?. with microsoft it's all about $$$ nothing else matters.. u can't make money withit so they pulled out..

Umm i came across the forms looking for some info Cuz some moron put a password on this ERD commander rar i was given and then i saw this argument:

See, that's the attitude that has everyone hating Microsoft so much. If people who worked for Microsoft knew everything then they'd produce more reliable software and we wouldn't need these forums. Don't be so arrogant.

now incase u don't know, people at Microsoft are not lazy or dum or even stupid, but are not universally to the point of a "quality product".. they mainly cut and paste there code to make it work properly.. however "properly" remains to be seen at micro soft.. Cuz all they do is form it then compile it and then sell it.. Hence the patches after the Release.. this is why micro soft appears to put out lousy corruptive software.. they always have since MSDOS

Now, now boys, play nicely & stop slagging each other off.
I normally work logged on to my company domain, but none of us can remember the original local admin password for my machine.
I tried booting up in Safe Mode, but it still requires an administrator password, and won't accept either a null password or any of the obvious ones. It looks as if it depends on how the machine was originally set up at install time.
So maybe you are both right.

Hello Rahul, i saw the message that you said that if any technical help just mail you. So, here:i want to buy a computer on ebay, XP tablet edition installed. It has a password on windows, thats the only downside. So it is a tablet pc and getting a dock or a cd drive is going to be hard. So i need a way to reset password without using a CD. What do you say. I saw something about safemode but i think it requires the admin pass to be to its default. What can i do?

Hi Rahul,
I have 2 problems with my pc running a WIndows XP Service Pack2:
A.Sometimes it starts properly and other times,it does not.Through safe mode I am able to login.
(Though I don't have admin pwd.)
After successful startup,it automatically restarts.
B.I am trying to use a USB 2.0 device which has data.
Even if system starts properly,I am uanble to access the data.
The USB is detected(seen as Icon),data is shown(as folder,.mpg files etc).
However,if I try playing the files...system restarts again.
My idea to troubleshoot is this:
1.Try the repair option from boot up CD(This,I hope, removes any problem in Windows Registry).
2.Access the USB and try copying data(as test).
3.If these 2 work, then try playing files on USB.

Please suggest if there are any other workarounds.

Here is my prolem. My computer after a normal reboot says Windows root >\system32\hal.dill needs to be reinstalled. I have my windows disk and have made it as far as R to repair then it asks for the Admisistrator password. Well i never set one up. Its a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. I took the cmos battery out ( under the keyboard ) and left it out for 5 minutes as directed. However when i went back in after all of this it still asks for the Admisistrator password. I am lost what can i do? Please help me...

Now in this issue what you can do is you can try to boot in the safe mode and try to do a system restore or as soon as your computer starts keep taping the f8 key on the keyboard and try last known good configration becaus with out the cd there is no way to run a repair.

Everytime i start the computer its a black screen with safe mode written on the four corners of the screen asking for username and password. Can anyone help me plz? how do i get out of this? even when i press f8 and try to reboot or start windows in normal mode it still gets to the black screen asking for username and password.. plz help me );

Well for 1 thing your virus(spyware.iepass.thief) can be removed by looking here

http://www.removeonline.com/...

But as your login, Ani i may not be 100% coherent in xp but i knwo how windows handes it self.. It sounds like it want the administrator password. When u 1st ran that pc (after u bought it and set it up) or when u 1st installed XP it asks you for a Administrator password and Login.

THAT login and password it wants.. this is the main user or main account on the systems. u will have to get that login information if u don't u could use a password cracker (ERD commander) and see if that would work.

If not.. well u might have to look at reinstalling xp.. There is a pretty good tech here u should ask him.. Rahul

You said that yu are purchasing a tablet pc from e bay and it has a password .in this case what you can do is you can start the comp[uter and as soon as you start the computer keep taping the f8 on the key board you will get the advanced boot option i.e

safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with command prompt
last known good configration etc

select safe mode and hit enter
now you will be on windows logon screen that will have 2 or more then 2 user accounts try selection ADMINISTRATOR if logs in its wwll and good but if asks for a password try logiing in to different account

senario 1-- IF YOU ARE ABLE TO LOG IN SAFE MODE TRY THIS STEPS

1- CLICK ON START
2-RIGHT CLIK ON THE MY COMPUTER ICON
3-CLICK ON MANAGE
4-YOU WILL GET A SCREEN "COMPUTER MANAGEMENT"
5-UNDE COMP MANAGEMENT CLICK ON THE + SIGN OF LOCAL USER AND GROPS
5-UNDER LOCAL USER AND GROPS CLICK ON USERS
6-ON THE RIGH HAND SIDE U WILL SEE ADMINISTRATOR AND YOUR USER ACCOUNTS NAME
7-RIGHT CLICK ON ADMINISTRATOR AND CLICK ON SET PASSWORD
8-SET PASSWORD ACCOURDING TO YOUR CONVINIENCE
9-CLIK ON OK
10-RESTART THE COMPUTER

SENARIO 2--- UNABLE TO BOOT UP IN SAFE MODE

1-IN THIS CASE WE HAVE TO DO A REPAIR INSTALL OR A CLEAN FORMAT AND WE NEED THE WINDOWS XP TABLET EDITION PC.

Rahul, Hope you can help me also.
When i switch my Dell Dimension 2400 on my computer asks me for the administrator password. I have no password & appear not to need one as when i press enter without entering a password the computer procceds to login & works perfectly.
Is there any way i can stop the computer asking me to enter a password? I imagine it's quite easy but it's still too difficult for me!!
Thanks for your time
Mark

Venom....he's just trying to help someone out. I don't see YOU offering any bits of wisdom at all. Don't try to tear someone down who's nice enough to help someone. Instead of calling someone an idiot why not pollitely tell the person WHY you think they're wrong.....because otherwise the only person that really looks like an idiot is YOU!

Hello

Dude, you are the bomb, I read all, all the other post and knew just by glancing this was not for me. I work on different PC's and some make an admin password in safe mode, Why IDK, and soon they forget. Others swear that's how they got it. Me I just had to have access to ADMINISTRATOR, period. Of course no one ever has the original or recovery CD's and there is no separate partition from which to repair. Your comment worked perfectly for me, heck most PC's I see have over 8 or more corrupted or hidden logons, but not no more thanks to you. God Bless you and America.

P.S. I followed scenario 1

Btw, you don't need to go into safe mode to access the administrator account. On the login screen, simply press ctrl-alt-delete twice... again, that is 2 times. The old fashioned login box where you can type in the username will appear, and you can simply type in "administrator" for the username. Assuming someone didn't go through the effort of renaming the administrator account, this will work grand.

So if either you know the password or one has never been set, the administrator account is the quick & simple solution.

Ok to get in the admin account whether it is just changing ur password or trying to get into someone else's admin account then all you have to do is this

follow these instructions:

to make it easy just turn off ur computer conpletely
then turn it on and hold F8 during start up until you see a menu
click on boot to safe mode and wait until the screen with all the user accounts is on
then click on the account you want to change the password on and it will just let you through
after you could go to ur settings and just change ur password

then to fix the safe mode problem you just go to start/run/msconfig/and click on run normally and
just restart it and access ur account like you always have again

hope this helps ur password problems and this would only work for windows xp and not vista

I have a Dell, and after going into safe mode, I press Ctrl+Alt+Del after the password box comes up. It then takes me to the Administrator and user password required box, where I try to type in the word "Administrator" in the Administrator password and it still won't let me in there either.
I have lost my startup or boot disk too and can't remember either passwords as we've had laptop packed away for months while moving. I'm desperate for help too. Ive tried to download all sorts of password recovery software and files etc, but nothing works so far. Can Some please help?
