OS Name Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium
Version 6.0.6000 Build 6000
I have been using wireless internet on my Advent k200 laptop for some time at home but recently I suddenly lost connectivity, the livebox is still displaying as normal in my network connections with a strong signal, when attempting to connect I am requested to enter the passcode as when I first used the connection to setup, as the connection is through live box I need to press 1 to allow pairing with my laptop then enter the key which I have done but the connection fails, always get the same message "windows cannot connect to livebox-FDEO ," this even happens if i knowingly use a wrong password where as I'm sure i used to get a prompt that said that the passcode is incorrect please retype, this may or may not be relevant and I'm purely going on memory.
In the mean time I have checked the network adapters in device manager , there are no exclamation marks against my built in wireless device "rt73 usb wireless lan card ," I have right clicked and used update driver sofware but it says that the most up to date version is being used, device status is working properly and have unchecked allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
* I have set wired auto config and wlan auto config under services (local) to start up automtically.
* scanned for viruses and spyware with AVG/ spybot an disabled all firewalls, no viruses or spyware found.
* Turned off the livebox at wall and removed telephone line for at least 10 seconds before repluging in, many times.
* System restore, but unfortunately due to low disk space older restore points that would have been ideal to use have unfortunately been deleted automatically, I have now cleared some space.
* deffinately used correct passcode for my livebox account, code is on bottom of box also copy and pasted from my livebox online account to the passcode box to make sure not being typed incorrectly.
* my wireless button is on.
* underwireless network connection properties I have unchecked internet protocol 6 and selected internet protocol 4 and changed properties to "obtain a i.p and dns address automatically,"
* checked ipconfig to the best of my ability (don't fully understand) but my i.p address is not starting with 169. which I read was bad, so I'm hoping my i.p address is correct.
* I am currently typing this using the same laptop with ethernet cable plugged in.
* Have ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew but made no difference.
