Earphone or headphone not functioning

Hello,
Im using acer aspire 5570,my laptop speaker work great..my problem is the headphone.When i plug in the jack..i wont be able to hear any sound from the laptop..at the first time i thought maybe the headphone is broken,but when i plug it to my friend's laptop it work great.Im using Realtek HD Audio Manager.Apparently,sometimes its work fine.What seems to be the problem?Please help.

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.5.3

Hai,

Go to control panel.
Then open realtek HD sound effect manager. In that under audio I/O tab, select headphone in the dropdown list. By default it should be in 2CH speaker.And also check the volume is in sufficient level.

Hi,

I already try everything,even reinstall the audio drivers again.Can it be hardware problem? It detected the jack.but i cant hear anything..make me fed up.
