No sound on my computer

Hello,
I have no sound on my computer. I am working on Windows XP. I have installed the sound card. I also have the graphics card drivers ( Radeon) which I tried to install several times. I do not have speakers linked to my pc but use the headphones. Please advise what can be wrong
