Hello,

You'll have to excuse my complete ignorance on this topic, but I just bought a set of Logitech X-530 5.1 Surround sound speakers for my laptop but have no idea how to set them up. At this stage I'm not even entirely sure which plug goes in which jack (the colour coding and terminology used in the instructions is different to what was provided with my laptop).

Firstly, what do I plug in where?

I have the following jacks available:
LINE IN JACK
MICROPHONE JACK
S/PDIF JACK
HEADPHONE JACK

Secondly, can I get 5.1 surround sound (is my present system capable)?

My system details are as follows:

OS Name Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Ultimate
Version 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002
Other OS Description Not Available
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Manufacturer TOSHIBA

Name Realtek High Definition Audio

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks closeup22,

I was just wondering though, the sales rep who sold me the speakers said that I should be able to setup 5.1 using three of the jacks on my laptop (I seriously have no idea so this might be complete BS, however...).

Apparently, I need to plug the jacks (green - front L/R, black - rear L/R and orange - centre/sub) into my headphone, line out and microphone jacks (I have no idea which was meant to go where) and provided I have the correct software it shold work. He showed me on a laptop in the store which also had realtek (soundcard/driver/whatever this refers to - once again, I have no idea) and it displayed a 5.1 surround sound options dialogue box.

Is any of this the case or is it just BS?

Definite BS. 99% of laptops can only output stereo. You need something like this:

OR
