Hello,

You'll have to excuse my complete ignorance on this topic, but I just bought a set of Logitech X-530 5.1 Surround sound speakers for my laptop but have no idea how to set them up. At this stage I'm not even entirely sure which plug goes in which jack (the colour coding and terminology used in the instructions is different to what was provided with my laptop).

Firstly, what do I plug in where?

I have the following jacks available:
LINE IN JACK
MICROPHONE JACK
S/PDIF JACK
HEADPHONE JACK

Secondly, can I get 5.1 surround sound (is my present system capable)?

My system details are as follows:

OS Name Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Ultimate
Version 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002
Other OS Description Not Available
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Manufacturer TOSHIBA
System Model Satellite P200
System Type X86-based PC
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7800 @ 2.60GHz, 2601 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 2.00 GB
Total Physical Memory 2.00 GB
Available Physical Memory 907 MB
Total Virtual Memory 4.23 GB
Available Virtual Memory 2.85 GB

SOUNDCARD (I THINK???): Realtech High Definition Audio

PNP Device ID HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_1002&DEV_AA01&SUBSYS_00AA0100&REV_1000\5&6386ED&0&0001
Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\hdaudio.sys (6.0.6002.18005, 231.00 KB (236,544 bytes), 16/07/2009 10:10 PM)

Name Realtek High Definition Audio
Manufacturer Realtek
Status OK
PNP Device ID HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0268&SUBSYS_1179FF06&REV_1000\4&214A8D76&0&0001
Driver XXXXXX\drivers\rtkvhda.sys (6.0.1.5477, 1.86 MB (1,953,944 bytes), 27/09/2007 12:04 PM)

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated,

Regards,

Green = Line Out
Black / Blue = Line In
Orange / Yellow / Pink = Mic In

That should work for your laptop.

That's pretty much what I run for my Logitech X-540 speakers. I used an M17x and the audio control panel even shows how to plug them in depending on if you want 2.0 or 5.1
