Why does my laptop sound only works sometimes

Hello, I have an HP laptop computer and for some reason ever since I got it the sound will only work when it wants to. Some days it will work some days it won't. When it doesn't work all I have to do is restart the computer, and then it starts working again, but after a while I get tired of doing that. The computer says that all sound is working and is set to laptop/speakers and not headphones. Please help me find a solution to my problem my computer is only about 8 months old, and I would hate to have to spend a fortune on fixing it or buying a nw one.

Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

type msconfig

press ok

on general tab

select normal startup

press ok then reboot
