Hello,
I have an HP dv 9000 series laptop. my last keyboard had a problem, the "M,6,7 would not work at all". So I decided to instal a new keyboard. Great worked fine for 1 month. Now the "Esc,hat, tab, caps lock,1,q,a,z do not work at all" . So hell I am thinking, put my old keyboard back in. So with that keyboard originally "M,6,7" yep they still do not work, but neither do the other keys "Esc,hat, tab, caps lock,1,q,a,z ". But that was never the problem with that keyboard. So I put the new back in so I can have my "M,6,7" back. Any Ideas what is wrong, I am thinking maybe something in the motherboard went. Don't want to risk buying a new motherboard till I research this a bit. And am reluctant to get another keyboard since the old keyboard came down with the new problem. And I have no other problems with this computer so I hate to have to buy another laptop because of a keyboard issue. But I can't tote this external USB keyboard around with me either. This does work fine attached to the laptop by the way. Thanks for any suggestions on troubleshooting...

Hello, I am having the same problem with my HP 9815 laptop. It's only 3 mos old. The ~,1, Tab, Caps Lock, Q, A & Z suddenly stopped working. In reading other posts, it sounds like this is a fairly common problem with laptops. Have you found a solution. Have you received any assistance from HP?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris, I have just brought new hp laptop and I have exactly the same problem with keyboard affecting the same keys as you. I know your message is dated august 2008 and it is now 2009. I wonder if you eventually discovered wht the problem was?

I hve exctly the sme problem (s you cn see) so if nyone hs fix I'd be very hppy. I've tried removing the keybord ribbon cble nd reconnecting it, but tht mde no difference. I thought it wouldn't, but you never know. It's probbly one of the trces in the keybord is broken, but the unit itself is definitely "rip nd replce" rther thn "open it up nd do it yourself"

Guess wht letters the "nti spm" field is sking for? :-)

I am experiencing the same issue. It is random. It appears that the middle letters/numbers will not work consistently.
