LAN shows limited or no connectivitiy

Hello,sir, whenever i open my computer and try to establish internet connection message flash in the taskbar menu LAN 2 limited or no connectivity.When i got to details of the problem it says network did't assign a network address to your computer.Plz help me.

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0
