Hello,
The other day I was trying to burn my files (photos, documents) to a dvd. I was cutting and pasting them to the F: drive (dvd). I did this with all files that were worth anything to me because I want to restore my computer to factory condition because I'm having problems. ANYWAYS, after I cut and pasted all the files (I was right clicking on F: and pasting) and then opened F: drive and and there is nothing there. I searched for *.jpg and can't find anything. Then I tried a system restore to three days previous (even though it said it wouldn't affect pics and files) and I still can't find them.
I have a Hewlett-Packard, Presario C500, running Windows Vista Home Basic.

PLEASE anyone, any help you can give me to get back my pictures is appriciated so much.

Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 8.0

Hi there,

you should not cut and paste

as during burning process it will look for the file location

you could have made a temporary folder and cut or copy the files and paste

in it then after the burning you may delete it

system restore wont resolve this issue

you will have to make use recovery tolls to recover the lost files

Thanks

He meant recovery "tools." It has been months, but i hope this would still help you. Recovery softwares should be able to recover if files are not overwritten, meaning that you installed something new and the computer wrote new data over what you deleted. I found a photo recovery software called photo rec. link: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download Also, try searching online for free recovery tool such as pc file recovery or recuva. Good luck.

By the way, i would recommend that you use a proper disc burning software and be sure that your data is accessible before deleting.

You can often use recovery software tools to successfully recover deleted files from a PC, camera memory card or USB Memory stick, it just depends on what’s happened since the files were deleted.

When files are deleted the data itself isn’t deleted, just the index entry that says where the data for those files is located. The space containing the deleted files is also now marked as free space so it is available to the system for any new files to be written there instead.

If and when that happens, then it becomes too late to recover your deleted files so it is very, very important to not save any new files or data to the device concerned.

If the deleted files are on your PC, use another PC to browse the internet for a solution as internet browsing causes lots of temporary files to get written to the disk. Download any file recovery software, for example, to a memory stick, plug that in the computer with the deleted files and run it from there.

If the deleted files are on a memory card or USB memory stick, just don’t save any new files to it.
One of the easiest ways to see if you can recover deleted files is to try some file recovery software. There are many such products available, both commercial and free – also of varying quality!

A good tip is to try the free demo version of a good commercial product that will scan the device for deleted files and show you exactly what files can be recovered. At least that will show you if you can recover the deleted files at all or if it’s too late already. You can find more useful information on how to get deleted files back here.
