Hello,

My daughter got a Lenovo 3000 200C through her divorce and it has a major problem and unfortunately, there is no Recovery Disc (ever made) to even try to fix it for her. I have tried everything but still can't get past the error code 0xc000000f which goes directly to the Failure Screen. Without a Recovery disc I don't know what to do. Any suggestions on how I can just reformat this HD and put in XP. I have tried to use a recovery disc from my husband's HP laptop, but it say it cannot use this disc and puts me right back to the failure screen. It did a diagnostics but needs the recovery disc. I am bewildered with this and, there is nothing on the HD of any importance since her ex took it all off! Just her pics and she has a back up copy of them. How can I get a Recovery disc or if I bought a Vista OS would that allow me to fix this problem? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.5.2

My sister-in-law helped yesterday and she had Vista. After several attempts, it upgraded, but the blue screen of death came on and continued to go from the desktop back to the failure screen then again to the blue screen that stated REGISTRY errors. She thinks this HD has a virus and, of course, I don't know how to rid it of the virus, if in fact, that is what is causing this HD to be totally unstable. I wish I could just reformat, but can't seem to even do that. Any suggestions on reformatting to get it clean and start fresh? Thanks for your help!

Do you have an XP disc?

during the process of installing XP you get the option to format the drive.

you put the XP disc in the drive, boot the computer and follow instructions on screen.

Here are the instructions for recoverying the laptop to factory condition:
Using Rescue and Recovery
If Windows is not running properly, use the Rescue and Recovery workspace to help solve or identify your problem. Do the following: 1. Turn off your PC, then turn it on again. 2. While the initial screen is displayed, press the Lenovo Care button. 3. After the Rescue and Recovery workspace opens, you can do the following: v Rescue and Restore your files, folders, or backups. v Configure your system settings and passwords. v Troubleshoot and diagnose problems using diagnostics. For more information about using Rescue and Recovery features, see the “Recovery overview” section in online Access Help.

Restoring factory contents Instead of providing a recovery CD or a Windows® CD with your computer, Lenovo provides simpler methods of accomplishing the tasks typically associated with these CDs. The files and programs for these alternative methods are on your hard disk, which eliminates having to locate misplaced CDs and problems associated with using an incorrect CD version. The complete backup of all the files and programs that Lenovo preinstalled on your computer resides in a hidden protected area, or partition, of the hard disk. Although hidden, the backups in the partition consume hard disk space. Therefore, when checking the capacity of your hard disk according to Windows, you might note that the total capacity of the disk appears to be smaller than anticipated. This discrepancy is explained by the contents of the hidden partition. The Product Recovery Program contained within this area enables you to restore the complete contents of your hard disk to the same state as it was when originally shipped from the factory. Note: The recovery process might take a couple of hours. To recover the hard disk to its original contents, do the following: © Copyright Lenovo 2006 19
Attention: All of the files on the primary hard disk partition (usually drive C) will be lost in the recovery process. However, before any data is overwritten, you will be given the opportunity to save one or more files to other media. 1. If possible, save all your files and shut down your operating system. 2. Turn off your computer for at least 5 seconds. 3. Select the On position of the wireless radio switch on your computer.Note: If you forget to select the On position of the wireless radio switch, your wireless network card will not be recognized, and the wireless card driver will not be included in your system. 4. Turn on your computer. Watch the display carefully while your PC starts. While the initial screen is displayed, press the Lenovo Care button. The Rescue and Recovery workspace opens. 5. Click Restore your system, select Restore my hard drive to the original factory state, and follow the instructions on the screen.Recovering data If you performed a backup operation using the Rescue and Recovery program, you also have one or more backups stored that reflect the contents of the hard disk as it existed at various points in time. These backups might be stored on your hard disk, or a network drive, or on removable media, depending on the options you selected during the backup operation. You can use either the Rescue and Recovery program or the Rescue and Recovery workspace to restore the contents of the hard disk to an earlier state using any of the stored backups. The Rescue and Recovery workspace runs independently of the Windows operating system. Therefore, you can start it by pressing the Lenovo Care button when prompted during startup. After the Rescue and Recovery workspace opens you can perform a recovery operation, even if you are unable to start Windows. Recovery options

Good Luck

Thanks for your help! I did use the button you stated and I tried to do a complete factory reinstall, but it failed due to the error code 0xc000000f...it stated it could not proceed. If you read the other posts I replied to, you will see that I tried to and partially successful in upgrading the Vista Business and it continued to either shut down (back to fail screen and the blue screen of death). How can I then do what you are stating to do? Just wondering if by using my sister in laws brand new Vista disc (while using the key code listed on this laptop) can I proceed. Have a I just totally messed it up by doing this? If I could just reformat the HD, I could then proceed to reinstall XP and/or Vista with a new product key code? I am about ready to just buy a new HD and start from fresh, but I don't have the money to do that right now. Thanks and any further assistance from you would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again for your reply!

If you have an xp disk then it's simple enough,
remove the drive from the laptop, slave it to another computer (adaptors can be obtained from the likes of maplins)
format the drive with that computer.
refit it to your laptop and boot the computer with the xp disk, you can then proceed to install xp.

A retail copy of Windows generally can't be used with the serial number that is on the COA label. This requires use of a OEM Windows disk.

I would take the PC to a repair shop and see if they can use their OEM copy of Windows to load the OS. Just make sure that they use the COA serial number. You might get this done for $100.

Reinstalling a fresh copy of VISTA might have modified the boot information and that is why you have a boot failure.

Good Luck

I am going to just reformat the HD and reinstall Vista (BRAND NEW which my sister in law owns and has never registered, since we tried on the laptop and it continued to fail) and/or my XP that I own.

I bought a Apricorn Adaptor Kit, SATA / PATA (ATAPI / IDE), but my sister-in-law has it today and I can't get to it to try to even begin to just Reformat the Drive...dang!

I really appeciate your help and I know with the replies from everyone, this thread will help others! Thanks again!
