Problems with Firefox and Adobe Flash Player

Hello,
I have the lastest version of firefox (3.5.3) and it is unstable. It popped a warning to me to download the Adobe 10 Flash Player (about 1.8mb)
Downloads fine, but then it seems to "hang" at the install part, , it flashes and shows for example a "1025.36%" at the end of the green status bar. It's as if it is looping and just can't seem to get the job done. All the while it is downloading flat out (used up over 50mb) to download this 1.8mb file. Wassup?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.5.3
