Hard drive is dead?

Itboy26, on Tuesday 22 July 2008 à 12:10:15
Hello,

I bought a brand new IDE hard drive today to have as a second drive for storage.

I got it home, plugged it in & it started making a weird electrical type sound. Ive tried it on different cables, different jumper settings & it always just makes this kind of electrical sound. & sounds like the disc is trying to spin up but doesnt.

Also I cant ever get it to show up in disc management & its not picked up by the bios either.
And when I turn the computer off the hard drive is quite warm, compared to my master drive which is stil cold.

Does it sound like this hard drive is dead or am I missing something?
Any advice appreciated, thanks
Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

Hello

Always when you install a new hard disk you should check in the bios settings because sometimes it shows you it is detected but it hasn’t. SO check the bios settings and make the detection again. Hope this helps.
