Hi vj,

After formating u must re-install ur sound card.

If u want more help tell the brand and the model uf ur computer. Or of ur MB if ur computer is a no-brand one.

Go to device manager, then right click on yellow question mark at multimedia audio controller.
then you'll see,,,it can find audio driver right through internet by itself if you have internet connection.select search driver to internet... :)

I have exactly the same problem.
it is a self built pc.
my motherboard has nothing to do with my sound card, they are different components.
i have no idea what sound card i have, it doesnt appear to have any writing or stickers that could be of any use in identifying it.
i know i need the drivers, but i cant find them because i dont know what card it is.
i have downloaded many many diagnostic and hardware profiling programs and none have given me the name of my card.

for some reason i can hear effects when i play them on the setting from my desktop, but i havent found anything else that actually plays the sound it should.
