Hacked IPOD

Hello, Neighbor boy hacked my son's Ipod Touch and added crap Tried to take the Ipod back to factory settings/original settings and now it's frozen with pineapple on screen. We have tried everything holding this and that and the only different screen we get it connect to ituns but we can't connect. Hubby and I are not computer wizards so thought I'd ask for help before I carry this Ipod back to story. BTW..this is my son's second touch...the first went thru the wash and didn't survive....sigh....boys. Any help would be greatly appreciate and keep in mind...not computer wizards.
