Can't open limewire to mac

I downloaded limewire to my Mac ox x 10.5.6 but it says that it requires java 1.6 or later or updating to a newer version of Mac Os x may resolve this...i went to one of the apple stores i was advised to update my os which i did ...i'm now running on Mac os x 10.5.8 but still can't open limewire...i get the same reply everytime i try to launch limewire...do i have to delete it and download it again? I just downloaded the basic version of limewire and not the limewire pro...will it really work on my mac?
Configuration: Mac OS X 10.5.8 Safari 530.19
