Hello,
my dvd/cd drive was working properly. in device manager is says i have TSST corp CDDVDW TS-L633B ATA Device. i downloaded software update, says it was updated. it also says it is working properly. i can't read any type of cd. it does sound like it is trying to read it, but then it stops. i also noticed it says i cant uninstall it, but if i do that, will i have an option to install it later? i was thinking this could help. i'm not sure what to do or what it could be. when i go to my computer, i look at drive E: and it has a pie. it shows that used space is in blue. no space available. I have a compaq presario CQ60 notebook. i hope this is enough info. thanks!

Hi Ericka,

Perhaps your Disk Drive has been disable from device manager.

Right click on My computer . System , Device manager

See whether it has been disable.

Of also i could have been disconected or worst a hardware problem.

Hi. well, i did go there as well. there are the buttons that show...driver details, update driver, rollback driver, and disable and uninstall. the only one that i'm not able to click is the rollback driver. i updated the driver and says it was updated. the disable and uninstall button are options, but i'm not sure to choose one of those or not.

Hi Ericka,
If you install it when restarting windows should detect it and re-install with the default xp driver, give it a try, its already not working.... unistall the driver and then restart. try to restart in safe mode as well and check if you still cant read any cd

if you manage to read in safe mode it is a software problem and not a hardware one

I uninstalled E: drive and it automatically installed at startup. it still isn't working. i'm just not sure what to do because it does try to read it. it still shows that memory is full on the pie digram as well, which i do not quite understand since it is the dvd/cd drive.

When a cd has been burn and finalized it always indicate that it is full. blueyezz have you ever use a livecd linux? an exemple is Ubuntu?, may be you can use it to see if you are able to read your cd.. i am wondering if it can be a virus..
