| 25 Usually Freeware, on Saturday January 31, 2009 11:55:56 PMI normally do not respond to posts as I am usually looking for knowledge to answers to the same common questions.
To start, I point to this web site: http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/ergebnisse/summary2008.pdf as far as an independent site that is respected. Since the entire 2008 report is out, take a look at it.
I am using the paid versions of Nod32 with Online Armor as a Firewall. I also paid for Webroot spysweeper which runs on computer startup. I have been happy with all 3. I am looking for a change. Most notably http://www.avira.com/en/products/avira_premium_security_suite.html
I have found in my studies that bundled packages however great they seem to be seem to be lacking in one or more respects. Case in instance. It is without a doubt, Avira or Nod32 seem to be the best as far as av, but combine it with the firewall they provide, you get a lesser product. If they excel in one area, leave it at that and buy another product that excels in another area. Do a lot of research. I personally love the site that Gizmo offers as far as freeware with a lot of looks to the paid versions. http://www.techsupportalert.com/
most notably: http://www.techsupportalert.com/desert_island_utilities.htm
Hope this helps in some small way. Reply to Usually Freeware | 26 Usually Freeware, on Monday February 2, 2009 09:08:47 PMI am repying to my origional post.
Is there any better reason to change if you get 6 months for free?
Am I the only reason you read? I have seen people talking about Kaspersky and such. I say garbage.
Nod32 is great. Modify a few things in avira, you have the greatest one.
Now for the real deal.

I pretty much gave all I can give. I did it.
GL People. (good luck people)
Remember to get a firewall....... Reply to Usually Freeware |
| 28 Nevi, on Sunday February 15, 2009 04:32:32 AMI thought NOD32 was the best bet,cuz its fast, lightweight, and seemed to have good detection.Wrong,, it did not find the small codec trojans,Kaspersky and Avira pick up right away.I use Limewire Pro,and sometimes a little one sneek in.NOD32 was not able to find them.I think that in itself is more than enough reason.:)
NOD32 is not a bad antivirus, its just not as good as the other 2. Reply to Nevi | 33 Usually Freeware, on Sunday February 15, 2009 09:16:36 PMI happen to agree with many points. You talk about Kaspersky as well. I want to see how you arrived at your decision.
I am also looking for knowledge. I only know of one site to learn what is the best: http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/ergebnisse/summary2008.pdf
Readers like me would like to see what firewall is used in conjunction to the av and how compatable it is.
How did you test to make sure? (I am positive your good) did you go to grc.com to test the leaktest?
It is after all through the firewall that your av works, and as such, did you test on bad sites?
I agree Nod32 is not the greatest (but please, Kaspersky?). I just want to understand the methodoligy behind what you said. Reply to Usually Freeware | 36 Nevi, on Monday February 16, 2009 02:03:26 AMHi..
I iused Kaspersky in over 5 years straight, and I have always been happy with it.It´s just,I was tired of the resources it used,so when I had a chance to try Avira,I was sold when I found out how good it was,but without the CPU loads.Just what I was looking for.
I have a little "trick" if someone is concerned about Spyware, and zero day attacks.Dont use a resource hog like Counterspyware,or Spysweeper, use PC tools Threatfire. It almost use no CPU,and it pick up everything that should not be there.Look into it its good and FREE.
I use Avira Classic and Online Armor retail. And I have a NAT router in front. Reply to Nevi |
