Computer hangs at "boot from CD"

Okay, so.

My XP gets cluttered up sometimes, and as someone with 5 independent hard drives, i sometimes install my windows on another drive to make room for my excessive music, etc. Anyway, this is a problem that has been going on for some time, but not one that bothered me because I usually don't need to boot from the CD. But now, I can't run the Boot From CD first in the BIOS sequence. With or without a CD, doesn't matter, the screen does the DMI Pool Data message, then puts up the Boot From CD: line, and stops right there. I can't get out of it except by pulling the plug; even a hard stop won't shut down the computer. If anyone could help, that would be great. I heard something about doing some POST thing but I have no idea what that is...

Bit drastic this. Remove the BIOS battery. Wait about 2 mnutes then re-insert it. As long as you are ok about resetting your BIOS settings to factory defaults, then that should sort it out.
