Hi. I'm fixing a friend's computer. He's got a XP Home SP3. I recently got rid of Symantic Client Firewall and various other Norton programs. I scanned it and cleaned a Vundo infection from the computer. I've put AVG on the computer but it fails to update. I try to go online to manualy grab it, no go. DNS error, internet explorer 6 says. Hmmm... I ping google and yahoo and I get a response. What to do, what to do?
Well, I try to do the WinSockFix program, no go. I get rid of Zone Alarm (which didn't show up in the Add or Remove section). I flush DNS. I Manualy started DHCP client... no internet. I ran netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log to no avail. I then ran CMD /K SC QC DHCP and got this...
SERVICE_NAME: dhcp
TYPE : 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS
START_TYPE : 2 AUTO_START
ERROR_CONTROL : 1 NORMAL
BINARY_PATH_NAME : C:WINDOWSsystem32svchost.exe -k netsvcs
LOAD_ORDER_GROUP : TDI
TAG : 0
DISPLAY_NAME : DHCP Client
DEPENDENCIES :
SERVICE_START_NAME : LocalSystem
Somethings missing there... what do I do from here? I've made sure the Tcpip Afd NetBT drivers were in the System32 drivers folder. They are there for sure.
Did Symantec mess up his computer? Did Zone Alarm do it? Did I do it? What do I do to get this guy on the internet? Someone help me before I throw this laptop out of the window.
Configuration: Windows XP SP3 Internet Explorer 6.0
