No icons on my laptop, no boot up

Hello,
i just loaded internet explorer 8 on my gateway laptop and trying to restart i can't see any icons except a windows explorer message about error signature. detaails include
appver: 6.0.2900.2096
modname: kernel32.dll
modver: 5.1.2600.2096
offset: 001ddf1

i will appreciate your help real qquick

I went through this stupidity last night after installing IE8. Even Safe Mode gave me the same stupid error message. I found that by pressing control-alt-delete still brought up the task manager. By going to the directory where IE8 was installed, I was able to click on the uninstall option, and after it completed uninstalling it, my system functioned normally again. Good luck.
