Hello,

I've got a problem on my 2-months old Acer Aspire One Netbook...I can't get my XP Home to boot up. If I select either of the Start options: “Last known good configuration” or “Start Windows Normally”, a blue screen error messages flashes quickly and the computer reboots immediately. If I select any of the 3 Safe Mode Start options, a list of WINDOWS\system32 files displays as follows:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\system 32\[various filenames]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\system 32\Drivers\[various filenames]

It stops at Mup.sys file then reboots. Here's the video description: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QV1F0d25Dc0

The interesting thing is that the problem occurred right on the same date when my McAfee anti-virus subscription expired... I even have some crazy thoughts that McAfee have sent me a virus on purpose. I called them and they immediately responded that they could fix everything very quickly for a "small" fee of around $80!!! b@stards...

Btw here's the blue screen content word to word:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or soft ware manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

The only new hardware I have is a new 6-cell battery which I bought from amazon.com. I am not sure what brand is the battery. The only name is on the sticker on the battery, it says "H L". The description of that battery is here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00..._ya_oh_product I have been using this battery for about 3 weeks and had no problems...

I also recall that right before my netbook started to have trouble with starting up, my girlfriend disconnected it from the power outlet while it was charging with the new battery on.

This is the best way I could describe my problem as thorough as I could.

When you try to start your computer with safe mode. type enter button rapidly if this works then go to accesories>
system tools > system restore and restore your computer.if this works not then grab a fresh copy of window xp not genuine and install it . i will tell you the process .if you install fresh window xp then do not turn on your automatic updates and install in it some award winning antiviruses like avira or avg to protect your computer

Call Acer and ask them how to do an alternative boot, not from your hard drive. You can then check disk which is probably bad. Then report back
