Dear mayur,
To get connceted with BSN bradband on LAN, you must create one as server by connecting it via USB and other computers will be client as they will be connected via the ethernet card. If u use ethernet for BSNL conn then u can get conn for only one user so go for USB modem conn n u ll get connection on other computers.

I have netgear switch. I have bsnl broadband connection. I want to connect one more system to my system. I have tried with assigning ip addresses to computer #1 192.168.1.1 and computer #2 192.168.1.2. I have checked the connectivity and they r perfect, but the problem is I am not able to access the internet on computer #2, still getting "page cannot be displayed" even after successful connectivity and also given same workgroup to both systems.

In your system 2, place the settings as 'Assign Ip address automatically'.
Don't forget to share in the broadband connection in system 1.

Actually the ip 192.168.1.1 which u have assigned to one of your computer, is the ip of modem. so please put ip 192.168.1.2 on one pc and 192.168.1.3 on second pc.

You have to give same gatway to the computer 2 and the ip address must be different from the gateway give ip add. to 1st computer 192.168.1.11 and to the another one give ip add. 192.168.1.12 and give gateway 192.168.1.1 now u get internet on both the computer

Hi

I have the same doubt, I want to use Wi-Fi on my laptop and the physical BSNL Broadband internet connection on my PC at the same time by connecting the modem to a wireless router which will be connected to my PC (my PC does not have the provision to access a Wi Fi connection). Can I do this without installing another LAN card or Wi Fi card the CPU of my PC? How should I change my connection settings to accommodate for such an arrangement?

Thanks

It does work Mr. Jayraj and thats why the usb cable has been provided. i.e. for systems which dont have a lan card or the lan card is engaged with some other network. It is just an alternative to the ethernet.

Hi all!

I am wondering why people are suggesting to use a PC as a server and then share the internet connection!!!

Actually bsnl provides (or you can purchase one) ADSL Router. It is not an ordinary modem.

You can save your username and passwords inside the modem (sorry ADSL Router) and then connect a LAN cable from it to a LAN switch / hub and then from there onwards you can connect any number of computers to share the connection.

By default, it's IP address will be 192.168.1.1 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 with DHCP enabled.

You can keep your DSL router (ie., broadband modem) in two modes.

1. Bridge mode : If you are currently connect to broadband just like a dialup connection by clicking on Dial button from a connectoid, it is already in bridge mode. If this is the case, you have to use a separate PC as a server and have to install two NICs (i.e. PCI LAN cords). Or you can buy a router and configure those username and passwords inside it and from there you can connect so many PCs. Or the easiest way is to switch to step 2.

2. PPPoE mode : This stands for Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet. In this case the bsnl broadband username and passwords are configured inside the ADSL router and it acts as a DHCP server and a router and a LAN switch.

Follow this link to know how you can do that:

http://kolkata.bsnl.co.in/dataoneinstall/menu.html

If you have an ADSL router with one LAN port and one USB port then you can connect TWO computers one to each port with no extra cost.

If you have an ADSL router with Four LAN ports and one Wireless, then you can connect Four PCs directly with no additional switch / Hub to LAN ports and Eight computers on wireless lan ( don't forget to configure wireless security).

If you have an ADSL router with only one LAN port and no USB port then you have to purchase a LAN switch / HUB so that you can connect several computers to share this connexion.

Even after reading this, if you still having problem, contact your nearest BSNL JTO (OD) or JTO (Broadband) to get your problem solved.

So many Internet Cafes are using BSNL broadband with upto 20 computers in Anantapur.
No other ISP is giving the speed provided by BSNL at this cheap rates.

Hi Uday ..

Thanks for the info for the new folks ..

I have the same challenge ....ie the access broad band in two laptops using single broad band connection ..

after reading your comment yesterday only i tried on my systems,
As i have an ADSL modem , having two ports ..one LAN and one USB ..as per the concepts and as u also recommend, I can access net on both the systems using two ports simultaneously ( at a time).
I did that ( after insatlling modem driver - for USB port )...but not able to access the internet on second machine .

under the TCP ip , properties, i am using automatic ..option for IPs.
STEPS I FOLLOWED
1- connect machine1 through USB port ...install ( already downloaded on the machine through BSNL site ) dirver for USB connection ..on machine1
2- connect machine1 to internet ..
3- now connect machine2 through LAN port and try to access the net after giving credentials(as we used in machine1)
4- Machine1 is working fine but not able to acccess the internet on machine2

now please let me know, do we need to change some other settings in any of the machines ., to access internet on both the machines at a time.
thanks in advance

PLZ HELP ME...
Hi,
I use BSNL broadband. My problem is that I cannot access internet from my laptop where as I can connect from my desktop computer easily. I'm not talking about connecting simultaneously. When I try to connect from my laptop, the IP address generated is 169.254.*.*, which is a self-assigned address by the operating system (Windows XP) when it cannot access the DHCP. I tried repairing connection, did all troubleshooting methods that I got during hours of googling. Anyway there is no change.
I dont have any idea what the problem is. My friend suggested that the ADSL modem stores the MAC address of my desktop computer in it and hence there is address mismatch when i try to connect from my laptop. Is it so? How to solve this? Is it because of PPPOE configuration?
plz respond.. I'm in trouble as my desktop is not working now!
Thanks.

Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 means you can connect up to 252 computers and keep them in Obtain Ip Address automatically mode so that you have no need to configure each PC.

If you have a requirement for more than this number, you have to change the subnet mask (it is configurable).
