Itunes has stopped working

I have been having troubles with my itunes. every time i try to open itunes; i get a messge stating "itunes has stopped working.... windows searching for a solution. There are no solutions at this time" I am very upset that i cannot sync my ipod touch, i have had it jus over 6 months and i have invested a lot into it. i have not tried to sync it with a different computer because i do not want to loose everthing i have on there by syncing something else. I dont know what settings i changed in the past month t disturb itunes. please help. i have a vista if you need to know that
