Permantly hiding a column in Excel

Hello,

I have an .xls sheet to email to a client and I do not want him to see one column - which containes my profit margin. I can hide this, but once emailed he can simply unhide the column and view. Is there any way that I can hide the column permanently from him?

If there is not a simple way, is there a copy, paste format special option which would only take the unhidden columns?

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

hey

I have 2 option for you. try both of them

Option 1.

Hide the Column and then protect the sheet with a password.

Option 2.

Copy visible cells only, and paste it into a new sheet.

Edit --> GoTo --> Special --> Visible Cells Only

The first is no real protection (in excel 2003 anyhow): Simply cut out a range of cells including the "protected" cells, paste them in a new workbook, and unhide them. Works without password.

If your client doesn't need to change the data, you could always save it as a PDF before sending it, in which case the hidden columns would not show up for him.
