No IP for Win XP after dual boot

the_craker, on Thursday March 6, 2008 05:10:55 PM
Hello,
I was able to set up a friend's Toshiba Satellite laptop to dual boot to XP Pro (it came with Vista Home Premium installed). Even though it can now boot into XP Pro, there is no sound, and it cannot get on the network. When I originally checked for an IP address in cmd prompt window, there was no IP info whatsoever. I tried adding a static IP address, but am still having these problems. Boot back into Vista, and everything works fine. Could this be a driver issue? The installation of XP Pro to its new partition seemed to go fine. Both hard drive partitions (Vista on C: and XP Pro on D:) appear in My Computer. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

1. None of the OEM system builders like Toshiba, Sony, HP & Dell will make available XP compatible drivers for Vista machines.

2. Windows XP Installation CD do not include drivers for devices proprietary to OEM system builders.

The only thing you can do is download System Information for Windows from Gtopala site HERE. You will then have to identify the type & make of each devices then search the Net for compatible drivers.

I'm getting the same problem. Added XP on a seperate drive to a Vista system and can't get internet to work when booted in XP, or change screen resolution other than 2 crappy ones. Downloaded very limited number of drivers for XP for my model, no help, and can't seem to find XP drivers for the specific hardware in the machine. Damn Microsoft.

Any tips?
