Computer monitor shuts off, system stays on

Hello,
I've been having a problem with my monitor. I have windows Xp on a dell and when it comes up to a page where it says windows Xp and there is a bar on the bottom which means its loading, the screen shuts down, but the system stays on. can i have the quickest route to fix this problem thaks. Ohh yea some people say it can be somthing wrong with the fan and others say its a bug. ohh and the only way for my computer to work was to put it on safe mode, but i used a different computer to right this.

Hello,

This is because you got infected or some startup file system got corrupted or damaged,

I will advise you to restore your computer to an earlier date, to undo changes.

To do System Restore:

Press F8 when the Computer starts after bios check, then select Safe Mode,

1.Click Start.
2.Point to All Programs.
3.Point to Accessories.
4.Point to System Tools.
5.Click System Restore.

Choose a date when your computer was working fine, then press Next

Let the process to be done then the computer will restart normally.
