Hello,
I bought a PowerBook G4 from an individual without the install discs. I don't have the system password either. I need to delete the previous owner's info and set it up for me.
I 've reviewed previous discussions here but the instructions aren't working other than the disc check command. Can someone give me more detailed info on what to enter?

Configuration: Mac OS X 10.5.2

To you have the administrator password?

If no you will have to re-install windows or others wise you will not be able to make the installation.

Restart with OS X disk and hold down c. You can reset the password with the disk.

Its obvious you will not be able to delete that PW thing... (Unless there is something not secure about your mac)
The solution to your problem is : Ask your friend for the PW.

If you are not able to ask your friend, then who tells us you're not trying to hack into a stolen PC (see what i mean?).

All you need is nothing: OK, restart your computer, hold down Command-S and type in the following:

/sbin/fsck
-y [Enter]
/sbin/mount -uaw [Enter]
rm /var/db/.applesetupdone [Enter]
reboot [Enter]

Once you've done that the computer reboots and ask you to set up an admin password. From there you just change all other account passwords in the account preferences

Accidently entered between the fsck and -y

should look like this:

/sbin/fsck -y [Enter]

Hello,

So, everything works until a certain point:

After I enter:
rm /var/db/.applesetupdone [Enter]

it says "no such file or directory."

Can anyone help? I have a powerbook G4 running OSX 10.5.... living overseas in Taiwan and this poor baby is my only connection to back home :( that and there aren't any "MAC" guys here...

thanks!

You have to write rm the hit space and continue the rest you must have forgotten to hit space in between rm and the /var
