Hello,
I had been running a Compaq Presario. The monitor was/is hard wired to the Video Port in the rear of the CPU. (It came that way from Compaq, original equipment) While moving the computer the monitor fell and the cable tore away from the the rear of the CPU virtually destroying the connection. I am unable to turn the monitor on.

How can I effectively recover some files I need from my desktop HD and transfer them to my HP laptop? Will I need a new video card? Can I take my hard drive out and use an external storage device to read my HD and then transfer the HD to my laptop?

I really need some help, please.

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 7.0
