Hello,
My Viewsonic LCD monitor has started going black. It's like the monitor is turning off but the green light is staying on. It will do it randomly. Sometimes when I'm playing a game and other times when I'm not even at the computer. When I turn the monitor off and back on it shows everything for 1 second and then goes black again. The only way I can fix this is to restart my pc. I have been using this monitor for about 3 years and haven't had any problems. I checked power options just to make sure and the monitor is set to never turn off.
The only things that I did before I started having these problems was installing 2 games and updating my DirectX 9. I have done a full scan for viruses, malware, etc.. and nothing turns up. I have also tried using my vga cable instead of my dvi cable and it is still happening.

I think it might be a video card or monitor problem. My video card is a PCIE that is 2 1/2 years old. It could also be a DirectX update problem. Any thoughts?

Try connecting another monitor to The computer. If you have no problems with that monitor, or in any case, there is nothing wrong with any software on the hard drive, and your backlight is probably dying, and/or the voltage inverter that supplies hig .If your LCD monitor is still under warranty (the backlight itself may have only a 1 year warranty) RMA the monitor so that it can be repaired or replaced.

h voltage to the backlight is faulty

i asked ppl form best buys and circuit city they all said that the backlight burned out..so they said that the only thing i could do is replace it, cuz to put a new backlight in would probably cost more than the monitor was originally.

It's probably the resolution of the game u've just installed that is causing it. I had a similar problem when I installed a certain game from miniclip.com and my monitor just turns off.
I had to uninstall the game and it's now ok.
