Hello,
Window Vista .......How to change Default .WPS to .DOC in MS Works 7.0

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I save all my filesnwith .doc but whenever I double-click a .DOC file, it opens correctly with Works-Word. However, it converts the .DOC file upon opening into a .WPS file,

But when you then close the file and/or the program, the sh.t-program keeps asking to save the changes (because it converted it to .WPS).
And all the companies i emailed my applications replied me telling me tha they could not open the files.
Is there any way to stop this evil-doer from converting, and can I set the default filetype to .DOC? and how?

It drives me nuts

Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

Microsoft Works saves in the *.wps format. Just because you save a document as a *.doc does not turn it into a Word document. So, when you open your *.wps file that is named *.doc, it opens in Works as a *.wps file, and will open in Word if the Works converter is installed. If you don't want to buy Word and you want to make sure people can open your file on their version of Word (they may or may not have the converter, even though it's available free from Microsoft), save your file in the *.rtf format (File, Save As, Files of Type, Rich Text Format).

I work at a college, and we have many students who have Works and have trouble opening their documents in our computer lab with Microsoft Office installed.
