Hello,

I did system restore on my 2004 Dell Inspiron Laptop. It had been running slow etc. I had done it before with no problem over 2 years ago. This time, I did it, the window that opened when it was done was the screensaver for Windows 95. The computer came with Windows XP and even says Windows XP right on the computer. I tried again to restore it, no go. just windows 95? I didn't even have windows 95 installed on it but it is just the screensaver, not the system. I have nothing at all to click on etc. I am using my daughters laptop now.
I will buy a new one unless anyone can give me an idea.
Thanks.

Hi,

try to do a system restore by going in the safe mode.

press F8 repeatedly when booting the computer and then choose Safe mode.

then you may try the system restore again.

I tried that. I have lost all my drivers etc so it doesn't work. I tried using my daughters xp and downloading it but that was all I was able to get onto the computer. No drivers and her computer is a different model so forget the drivers. My other daughter has a mac which I am using now.
When I got the computer it came with a piece of paper shaped like a disc saying: Your new computer does not require an operating system CD or drivers CDs. Instead if you ever need to reinstall your software, use Dell PC Restore or System Restore. I used the Dell PC restore by holding the control and F11 and then clicking 'restore' which returns computer to original operating state. As I said, I had did this about 2 years ago with no problems.
Obviously this time, I had a virus and it wiped me clean. I had stayed at a Hilton over the weekend and believe I must of received a virus from using the wireless and didn't think twice about restoring it. It had been running slow and I was told that the virus will make it run slow just so you restore it, so then the virus attacks. Not sure if that is correct, but it sure seems so!
