Hello,

OK here's the deal. I use linux and am don't know very much about windows. I am trying to set up a wireless network in my house. I have a D-Link Di-713P. I am using a computer with windows xp on it as the central computer. I am having trouble setting it up and getting all the settings right. As i said before, I don't know very much when it comes to windows, especially internet and networking stuff.

I have all the manuals and several forums posts printed out and sitting by my computer. I just can't seem to figure this stuff out.

If someone could please help me. Thanks.

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0

Its very simple ! First of all check that for whether your ISP is using dynamic or static IP ? Secondly figure out that the encryption method for XP, Vista and the router should all be same. That means WPA or WPA-2 personal etc.
Don't forget to connect the LAN cable for the first use with XP otherwise your netwrok wil not work.

Check and come back we will help you again.

I'm having trouble connecting more than one laptop to a wireless network at the moment.
One laptop connets fine, the one that I did the router static ip settings etc on.
Others cant connect tho.
So you cant set up a wireless connection via wireless router while using your wireless on your laptop?
it has to be plugged in to the wireless router intially???
Please reply if you think this is the case

I had the system working for about 10 days and my son downloaded some type of fire wall. I got in and allow wireless setting and the dlink worked again. The system got turned off or lost power and now my computer sees the dlink and says everything is working properly except my embarq dsl will not see the dlink wireless unit. On one of my screens there is a pc with a line to dlink and the line to the globe has a red x on it, i need some type of reset that the button on dlink is not enough.

I purchased DSL 2640B wireless/router modem combo to replace my 2-Wire 2701-HG-B which suddenly died last week. The tech support guys at AT&T were able to help me connect to the internet through the LAN cable, but even with the security feature disabled, I could not use the internet through the wireless router. I could access the configuration page wirelessly, just not the internet, so I called D-Link Tech support.

Even though I told them I had disabled the WEP encryption, they walked me through disabling it. Then they had me enter the universal DNS and alternate DNS. When that didn't work, they had me contact AT&T to get the DNS from them. AT&T told me they use the universal DNS, that I needed to contact D-Link for help. When I tried calling them again, the system hung up on my twice. I tried contacting them via e-mail and never heard back from them. A few days later, I contacted them again by phone and once again, after I explained to the Tech support representative everything had been done, she tried to walk me through disabling the WEP encryption. I told her I already said I had disabled it. Then she tries to walk me through entering the universal DNS. Once I again, I reminded her that I told her I had already done that. Then she tells me that I need to contact AT&T and ask them what to use. Once again, I reminder her that I already told her I had done that.

Then she tells me I need to contact the manufacturer of my computer to figure out how to disable the firewall. I was trying to connect with a work laptop, and we are not allowed to disable the firewall. At this point, I gave up and bought another 2-wire product. I got it set up in less than 10 minutes with no phone calls.

I'd advise you to return it and try another, more user friendly product.

Even I purchased the D-Link DSL-2640B ADSL2/2 . I tried using the quick installation CD. But after the second step it failed. I disable the security and tried again to install. Still could not install . Will be returning this and buying some other router.

Put in lan setting 192.168.0.2 as the IP address and in the subnet mask put 255.255.255.0. after that open Internet explorer and type 192.168.0.1 and you will get the setting page of D-link. Default ID is admin and leave blank in the password field.

Please try this:
http://192.168.0.1/wireless.asp
Then disable that Win Vista WCN protection

Thanks
