thanks. Reply to Midnight | 83 Sh'kyra, on Dec 5, 2009 4:32:42 pm GMTI know a Midnight! =)
Sorry. Well these are the solutions I know.
Either go to "My Computer", "(C:)" (Where you have program files, document & settings ETC. I call it C Disk...) then "Program Files", Click "M" on your keyboard and one by one, all the Messenger associated files (MSN Messenger, Messenger Plus! Live, Messenger, ETC.) click into them and look for a unistall executable file (With the file extention ".exe"), you shouldn't have to click into a sub folder to find it, it should be directly visable from the main folder, if there's not one, jot down the name of the file which it isn't in, and uninstall the others you find, one of the other uninstal executable files mayb uninstal and remove that file, search for it in "Program Files" once you've uninstalled all you can.
If that doesn't work, go to "Control Panel", "Add or Remove Programs" and search for a Messenger associated program to get rid of.
If that doesn't work, try doing the other method mentioned... Click "Start", "Run" and type
msiexec /x {0AAA9C97-74D4-47CE-B089-0B147EF3553C}
If that doesn't work, I'm sorry, I can't help.
I have a problem with Messenger though. A while ago, a newer version of Windows Live Messenger Plus! was out, I didn't install it because usually certain aspects are lost once you download the new version. Then, one day, I tried to sign in and a little box popped up..
"Windows Live Messenger
A newer version is available. You must install the newer version in
order to continue. Would you like to do this now?
[] Yes [] No"
I clicked no, the box went away, but I still couldn't sign in, so I gave up and pressed yes, at first it didn't work, then I realised I might need administrative rights on the computer (My main account doesn't have those rights because I use my computer on a regular basis, and if I got a virus while logged into that account on my laptop, it has a limited reign over my computer). So I llogged off and onto a different profile, installed the update and restarted my comptuer for good measure. When I logged back in, MSN wouldn't come up, I then realised i had been clicking a link named "Windows Live Messenger" and so I looked thorugh Program Files, found "MSN Messenger", opened it and clicked the executable file "messenger.exe" it worked, Messenger Live came up. I tried to sign in and it repeated the message...
"Windows Live Messenger
A newer version is available. You must install the newer version in
order to continue. Would you like to do this now?
[] Yes [] No"
I pressed no, same thing happened, like the first time. So i clicked yes, but when I came to the page where I have to "tick the boxes" next to the element of Windows Live I wanted to download, it didn't let me. There weren't any boxes to tick because it acknowledged I had installed them all, Yet it still wanted me to either tick a box, or press "Cancel". There wasn't to buttons ("Install" & "Cancel") anymore because I needed to tick a box to install anything. But like i said, it knew I had all elements installed and updated....
Windows Live
Choose the programs you want to install
Click each program name for details.
[This is the area where it would have the programs & [tickhere] box things]
You already have these programs: [Btw, the "√"represents a Tick]
√ Messenger
√ Mail
√ Photo Gallery
√ Toolbar
√ Writer
√ Family Safety
√ Microsoft Office Outlook Connector
√ Microsoft Office Live Add-in
Space Needed: 0.0GB
Space Available: 3.56GB
(And I had more space before, but it still didn't work)
So I pressed "Cancel" and Messenger Live was still up, but everytime i try to sign in, the box keeps coming up..
"Windows Live Messenger
A newer version is available. You must install the newer version in
order to continue. Would you like to do this now?
[] Yes [] No"
I've tried uninstalling all Windows Live & Messenger programs and re-installing multiple, I've tried it on different profiles, I've restarted my computer about a billion times already. What else can I try? When I uninstalled I made sure all elements were gone, and my computer clear, I've waited through deep system scans too. I don't know what's wrong?
Im in an endless cycle, and I can't see a way out.
What do I do?
Much appreciated Xx Reply to Sh'kyra | 85 johnmoll, on Dec 11, 2009 10:28:06 pm GMTHi
I can imagine the problems youa are having, I tried to upload a new version and it said I already had - the same way as you did. I started with the problem of not being able to log on saying it was unavailable error code ... I went throuygh various thingsa to correct that and now have an error code 80191002 cannot find contact list.
I hav eemailed support about this and am waiting reply.
However if you are just try ing to delete live messenger you can get a very good 'cleaning programme' free at:-
http://www.ccleaner.com/
It has a 'tools' icon on the left and in there it has uninstall (and startup uninstall) it does list all the messenger fiels in there and is easy to delete them.
The other area you can visit on your PC is by clciking on 'Start' 'Run' and entering 'regedit' - this takes you to the area where everythign is registered and you can use the 'find' command (Control+'F') to find 'live' BUT BE VERY CAREFUL registry can be quite dangerous to mess with - I only juse it to clear out remnants of so called delted progs. whihc are in the 'user' directory and the 'software' directory. Reply to johnmoll | 86 Sh'kyra, on Dec 12, 2009 10:31:34 am GMTHey, I asked for help from the "Windows Live Team", they sent me a mini questionaiire to complete, then they sent me this "personalised" reply...
Thank you for contacting Windows Live Messenger Technical Support. I apologize for the delayed response. We have been experiencing an unusually large number of Service Requests lately. I truly appreciate your patience.
I understand that you are unable to install the latest version of Windows Live Messenger. I know how inconvenient this is for you. I've listed some troubleshooting steps below that may help resolve this problem.
Please follow these steps:
1. Completely Uninstall Windows Live Essentials
a. Click Start, click Run, type the following command, and then click OK:
control appwiz.cpl
b. Under Currently installed programs, locate Windows Live Essentials.
c. Click Remove.
d. A new window will open. Select Uninstall and click on Continue.
e. Select all the Windows Live programs listed and click on Continue.
f. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the un-installation of all the Windows Live programs.
2. Delete the Windows Live folder
a. Browse to the following location: C:\Progam Files
b. Look for the Windows Live folder and then delete it.
3. Clear the entries in the Windows Installer database by using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
a. Visit: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 and click on the link: Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility Package now.
b. Save the file on your desktop.
c. Right-click the setup file (msicuu2.exe) and choose Run as Administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
d. Once you have successfully installed the program, start the utility.
1. Click Start.
2. Click Programs.
3. Click Windows Install Clean Up.
e. On the list of Installed Products, select all instances that have (All Users) Windows Live on it. To make sure that you are removing the right programs, click on one item at a time then click on the Remove button until all entries with (All Users) Windows Live are deleted from the list.
f. Click Exit.
g. Restart your computer to make sure that all changes made will take effect.
4. Perform Windows Update

2. Windows Update Logs
a. Click on Start and type the following command on the Run box then click on OK:
%Windir%\
b. Scroll down to the WindowsUpdate.log file
