Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0
It is being set by one of the programs that you run. You will have to resort to the process of elimination to find out which one. You can begin the process by not starting any program that uses the microphone.
Please let us know who is doing it. |
That's by Windows design - otherwise you would be hearing what the mic picks up all the time, if it's plugged in and the volume is high enough. It's supposed to be muted by default in the main mixer in Windows, and when you use a program that can use a mic, it's supposed to be automatically un-muted while using the program.
If the program that is supposed to un-mute it automatically is poorly written or if it isn't installed properly, that may not work properly. And obviously you must have your sound drivers installed properly.

Hi Everybody I got the same problem as well but have been able to figure it out. Go to control panel --> Speech. Click on audio input. A new window will appear. Choose option "use this audio input device" then select your device. In my case it was Realtek HD Audio Input.
Hope this helps. Kind Regards, Romeo |

I'm having a similar problem , when starting out in yahoo voice account , everything works ok , then after a number of minutes the microphone self mutes( indicated by a red LED) . I've tried pushing the mute button on the headset control to toggle the current state , but it has no control , the only way i can override it is to go into call setup in yahoo messenger and that seems to fix it for a while , where it will once again self mute at a later time , usually a few minutes . I suspect its a software issue , as it doesn't self mute using any other software . There is a possibility that it could be hardware as well , maybe a USB malfunction . Anyone got this problem . |
Hi,
Quite frustrating the "automute mic" thing in the Yahoo! Messenger 8. I would say it's a bug, which is fixed in the Yahoo! Messenger 9 Beta. In my opinion Skype is working much better for making PC-to-PC calls. Yahoo! & MSN both have issues what I've seen. Anyways, try the new 9 Beta from Yahoo! Messenger, it fixed my issue with the Microphone (also it lowered my speaker setting always to 0%, which then muted Wave...but that's fixed too). |
Hi,
Try going into windows sound master volume and then go into options, properties select your audio output, a tick box should be there that has "rear pink in" tick that box then press "O.K" unmute the "rear pink in" |
