Hello,

My nightmare has been over 3 months long, starting with my first laptop (PAVILION DV-5 1137LA) who had problems and who after the 3rd time I took it to the warranty service, was exchange to a new one of the same model.. until 3 days later a problem I have never even heard about appeared and I'm afraid I have to take this to the warranty again!!!!!

PLEASE HELP, MY COMPUTER IS DYING!

First 2 days the notebook worked beautifully, I thought I was finally clear of all the HP nightmares for good. Then one day I start my computer from fresh, and the following 3 things have happened:

1. Keyboard doesn't work.
- sometimes it doesn't react at all to anything
- sometimes it reacts to some keys but not others
- seems like a driver problem, but updating keyboard drivers doesn't work, and the hardware manager displays no errors or warnings.
2. Mouse doesn't work.
- it does click and move, but clicking with the left side does weird things (of course I have checked all the configurations and they're fine!), like trying to open another browser opens another window, or by trying to change from one toolbar window to another, it refuses to open the window unless i right-click on it and select maximize, but even then it often doesn't work and all the windows and programs freeze.
3. Explorer doesn't work.
- Doubleclicking on any icon - program, folder, icon, either on desktop OR inside windows explorer (which opens by right-clicking the start meny and selecting explorer) - doesn't open anything, except a Start Properties window for that specific archive.
- Sometimes by right-clicking the icon and selecting open as admin, it opens the program. Sometimes nothing happens.
- Every single time it keeps opening the Start Properties menu no matter where I go and what I do.

SO SUMMA SUMMARUM: All these things happen silmultaneously. The keyboard stops working, the mouse starts doing weird things and I can't open any archives.

TROUBLESHOOTING SO FAR:

- Checked configurations - nothing.
- Virus scan - nothing.
- Hardware and memory scan - nothing.
- System restore to an earlier point: WORKS, but only for a while!
- System recovery back to the original factory settings: WORKS, but with both of these issues pressing the F11 doesn't always work as the keyboard is dead, so have to try many many times, and wish for the best.

IDEAS:

- It seems to happen after Windos Update has updated automatically the latest updates and drivers, but I can't figure out which update of all the existing 50 the demon is.
- BESIDES! Sometimes even after point restauration to a point just before the updates doesn't work either and the problem is still there, until I do a system recovery!
- It seems the hardware can't connect to the drivers somehow, or the drivers that came from the factory are corrupt; I cannot believe the update drivers are corrupt in themselves, as with my first dv-5 1137la few months ago I installed the same drivers (published before March-May 2009) and they all worked fine (the problem with my first computer was random shutdowns, another long story).

I have now prevented Windows Update from updating automatically, and I have just performed a point restore to a point just after my last Recovery. So far so good. But I am afraid to install any updates, because any one of them will make me reinstall Vista again!!

Hardware/Firmware/Software issue???? Do I have to go back to HP service for my 6th time already???????? Or could it be there's something to be done still? I have chatted with HP online assistants for hours, and they basically told me that I should bring it to the service, but they didn't perform a very thorough investigation themselves, either because they know there are defective models, or that they're just lazy...

Please help!!!

Dear Sir,

I just think that you should format the laptop and install a fresh windows!

And yes please update your windows system and also the antivirus regularly!

Sometimes when it get infected this happens!

To verify is there no problem with the keyboard, just access the bios settings and check if its working there

Thanks
