EIDE backward compatible with IDE?

Muskymu, on Sunday June 29, 2008 02:50:54 PM
Hello,

I have 2 Dell Dimension 2400 systems that I am working on. Both have IDE. I was looking to install two EIDE DVD Burners in them. Is EIDE backward compatible with IDE? I know that USB 2.0 devices will work in USB 1.0, they just downgrade to use the 1.0. Does EIDE do the same?

Thanks in advance!
Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

Hai

IDE/EIDE/ATA/ATAPI are basically all compatible. Like RAM, installing a faster transfer mode drive in a system with slower transfer controllers will result in the drive maxing out at the slower speed.

The fastest any burners run is 66Mbps anyway. Be sure to use an 80 wire 40 pin cable (the colored ones).
