Can ping websites but cannot browse

Hello,

Just did a spyware cleanup on a computer and I fixed everything. Now the computer won't connect to the internet. If I open a command line I can ping any website I try using the name or IP address. If I try to update antivirus or open a webpage I get an error. I can ping but no software can access the internet. I have tried winsock repair and ip repair. The owner has old software and doesn't want to loose it. I am going to go crazy...

please help me.

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

Hai

Firewall settings may have been changed. Disable it for testing or look at the exceptions list.

I had the same problem, i can fix it by stoping the On-Access Protection in Avast! Antivirus
