Hi, i'm trying to change the OS (xp) on my Aspire One to English (I apparently inadvertently somehow picked 'French' during first bootup) ~ I was successful doing the ALT-F10 thing during bootup and I even got the "do you want to restore to factory settings?" prompt. I clicked yes and the whole process began (just like the very first time i turned it on). Everything is in English.....it 'finishes' and reboots ~ then the blue xp page comes up, saying 'please wait' or whatever (still all in English).........

then the black 'Windows XP' screen comes up and at the bottom is says "veuillez patienter", which means 'please be patient' in FRENCH! At this point, there's still a few more steps before the entire process is complete. When the 'location' and 'language' questions come up (yeah, in French-i understand enough to get through this), I choose my country and specifically choose 'English' for the 2 questions (main language and keyboard)

What am I doing wrong? why can't I seem to change the language to English?

reeeeeeally nearing the end of my patience here......any help would be SO appreciated. Thanks :)

Configuration: Acer Aspire One/XP

Sounds all well and good, but the acer will not give you the option of picking "English" or English - U.S.A or English - Canada. It's all in french. Even if you pick Anglise - Canada, you still only get French.
Is it possible to change it, or does it need to go back to the store?

Did you ever solve this problem? I am in the exact same position as you. I selected Canadian during the initial set-up and got French instead of English! No matter what I try, I cannot undo this; very frustrating.

Made the same mistake with the language choice during initial set up and ended up the same as the others....French WindowsXP. Apparently, once the language choice has been made, no matter how inadvertently, there is only the one time option for you and once the computer has been assured that it is the language of your choice....it completely deletes every other language that is in the system and cannot be retrieved again. However there may be 2 options for you: 1. Call Acer's customer service line and they should send you a recovery disc to re-start the whole set up again as if the computer were completely new. The pro to this is that the disc should be covered under warranty but the cons are that it will take a couple of weeks to arrive and once the disc arrives, you need to find a way to install it. Option 2: You could go down to Staples and they will install with their version of the recovery disc and charge you $20 for the installation....at least this is what I was told. Hope this helps.
