WANT TO INCREASE WIRELESS MODEM SPEED

Hello,
I m using the wireless modem for internet.Its a tata modem made by sunghil, on starting it shows speed of 230 kbs/sec. and its dowloading speed is only 5 kbs/sec or 8 kbs/secand some time only 1 kbs/sec.
can u tel me how to increase my internet speed.
please tell me the solution. i wll be very thankful for this kind act.

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0.7
