Computer Fan running loud

hard678, on Saturday 28 June 2008 à 12:35:31
Hello,

My Dell Dimension fan is running loud, since the temperture in my room is really hot, it must be picking it up. Anyways I took the side off, and put a box under it, that is 8 inches high. Now that the side is off it is running really quiet.

My question is since it is open on the side, could the static electrity from the carpet cause damage? Does it need to be higher than 8 inches up?

Thanks,
Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

Hai

When our Dell 4600 starts in with a loud fan we know its time to blow out the dust....every time.
Be sure to remove the green shroud and blow out the dust in the heat sink as well.
The fan pulls air out and if the H.S. is clogged the fan works overtime. It seem to only take a little bit of dust.

Just lung power will do it....and be sure to of unplugged the machine first.

Don't ever use a vac cleaner.

It should be OK as is. Just don't put your hands inside the computer.
