Hello,
I cannot get into my Outlook email.
I get an error message: "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Errors have been detected in the file C:\Documents and Settings\Randy\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft
Outlook\Outlook.pst. Quit all mail enabled programs , and then use the Inbox Repair Tool."

First I attempted to find the "Inbox Repair Tool" without much luck as it has moved from the old days.

Second, I typed the above string in and the machine replied that it did not exist.

Third, I checked here and found out where I could find the Inbox repair tool. I went there and the icon next to SCNPST and SCNOST were broken with a red cross in the middle. They obviously didn't do much when I attempted to check files!

So, I put in the Office disc and tried repair and it did not work.

I went to system restore... tried 3 different dates and it would not restore.

I put the office disc back in and did a complete reinstall. Still does not work.

Lastly I attemped to restore with Norton GoBack. It did not work....

I am at a loss! Any ideas??? All would be appreciated.
Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6.0

Never mind... It seems that I didn't follow directions well and made some poor assumptions. In the clear light of Monday morning I repaired it rather easily!!

If your getting the "Errors could have been detected in the file drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst. Quit all mail-enabled applications, and then use the Inbox Repair Tool." error then Just go to start menu and then search, search for all files and folders for "scanpst.exe" without quotes then run. you will want to copy the path that the error message gives you and paste it in the scanpst.exe path. then click start. the defaut location for the program is (C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033).

I tried inbox repair on the outlook.pst file and it came back that there were no errors. I reinstalled "office xp professional" and reinstalled every upgrade. It still doesn't work. Help.

Thanks Nick - worked like a charm.
Typical of Microsoft, their "help" was useless as usual. I spent aboslute ages trying to find their help suggestions to solve the problem but to no avail. I went on to the internet, found this site and very quickly sorted out the problem. Why can't MS's help be more helpful? They can afford it and owe it to their customers.
