Cannot open any programmes in windows xp

Hello,I cannot open any programmes.The programmes are there because when I click on properties I can see the size of each of them.This just happened this morning as I was downloading a programme a message came up from my AVG security saying "trogen horse detected".I clicked on "heal" and carried on.However when I next tried to open any programme it will not open.Can someone please help?.

Hi. seems like your anti virus program is out of date so you need to update it . as you update it run a full scan for your computer. and after that restart your computer.

This means your system is infected, All you will have to do is to update your AVG antivirus and then scan your computer completely.
