Hello,

I have a problem with my acer aspire one netbook running on windows xp home
for some random reason my boot doesn't work anymore
when i try to boot it says some files are missing, try to repair it with the windows xp CD
but I don't have a windows CD and i don't have a usb CD drive as well
I heard about the solution when pressing alt + F10 when starting to reset to factory settings
but the problem is I'm on vacation right now and there are a lot of pictures on my c drive that I don't want to loose
so my question is; can I fix the boot procedure with a usb stick or something
without losing all my data on my C drive?

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0.11

Hi,

you will have to repair the windows.

before any attempt, it is highly recomended that you make a backup of all your important files.

you can repair the windows by loading windows XP on a pen drive. You will have to make it bootable first.

and you need to buy the windows installation cd.

Well, what i did was press alt + f10 during boot (it could be Fn +F10 too, not sure anymore)
it then loads windows setup from a hidden partition so you can reset to factory settings
you do loose all your data on your C disk though!

hope this helps
