| Brian L, on Sep 3, 2009 3:28:38 pm BSTIt seems that this problem is with the power settings... strangely. You do not need to re-install windows or anything crazy like that.
Here are the fix steps:
1. Turn off your computer
2. Disconnect every wire from it (including power)
3. Disconnect the battery from the bottom of the computer. There will be two tabs labeled 1 and 2.
4. Re-plug in the power wire. (the battery should not be in the computer)
5. Turn on the power. The screen will work. Choose start windows normally. (if you get that screen)
6. Go to Control Panel -> (Mobile PC) -> Power Options -> Under Balanced choose change plan settings
7. Choose Change advanced power settings
8. Find Processor power management and change the minimum processor state from 5% to 100% for each On battery and Plugged in.
9. Click Apply then OK
10. Shut down you computer.
11. Disconnect the power cord.
12. Re-install the battery on the bottom of the laptop, plug in the power cord, and restart the computer.
You should be good to go. Reply to curseten | 35 Vega, on Oct 29, 2009 3:54:08 am GMTCurseten, how did you solve the problem with a corrupt boot-up partition? Mine also wasn't working when it was just plugged into the AC with no battery. Reply to Vega | 37 Curseten, on Oct 29, 2009 8:29:33 pm GMTHey Vega. Hope you get this message, but I went to a couple other sites and posted this as my solution:
"Okay, good news. My laptop is working again and I am on it right now. All I had to do is delete everything off of my hard drive first.. as in a seperate operation, then restart then do the recovery wizard. For some reason I think one of the partitions was corrupt or the recovery wizard wasn't working properly because of the stuff still on my hard drive. I'm not sure why they don't give you the option to format before the recovery/reinstallation option. But this problem could possibly happen again, because I do not know what caused it.. Thanks for all your help!"

All I did was instead of going to the recovery wizard option first, I formatted my hard drive completely to erase every and all partitions, THEN went to the recovery wizard. Hope that helps! You gotta remember though formatting your hard drive will erase EVERYTHING on your hard drive INCLUDING all files and pictures and everything you have stored on it, so I suggest getting a linux and backing it all up first!!
This solution is only for people who tried the battery power thing above and it didn't work for them. Reply to Curseten | 41 Vega, on Oct 29, 2009 11:41:16 pm GMTI already tried to format my laptop. In fact, my recovery cd for my previous Vista home does not work anymore after using it once. So I decided to change it to vista black edition. Now, the problem still do exist:
1. It freezes when I plug in the power chord during normal battery operation. (fan is still working and cd drive still react, open or close)
2. Difficult to boot during Battery operation after weeks of use (note that laptop does not boot at all using AC alone or without battery, the "on" light and "hard drive" light just blink. Seems like its trying to boot but power is not enough, but I can see the fan is still working and CD drive still reacts, open and close). But after several try, it boots again; then freeze again after some time (I have to force a "hard shut down" i.e. removing the battery). Its like "heating" the computer first. The most number of tries i make, the longer the time before it will freeze again.
I had defragmented the disk just last night and also do a disk clean up.
Thanks guyz for the help. Reply to Vega |

| 31 melody1011, on Oct 26, 2009 4:11:53 pm GMTHi
I just got a new toshiba and used it as usual this morning. however when i tried using it again later, it would just not start up. On repeated pressing of the power button, i got some colored lines and even the toshiba logo came on 2 times however after than it screen started fragmenting into colored lines again. and i needed to press the power button to shut down. Its only about a month old however i got it in canada and right now im elsewhere so cannot take it to the place where i bought it. Dont think the warrenty is valid if i take it out of the country. Any suggestions as to what I can try? I got plenty of snaps and other imp data and would be in a fix if I could not recover it.
Any help is welcome.
Thanks
Melody Reply to melody1011 | 38 Curseten, on Oct 29, 2009 8:40:53 pm GMTThat might be a problem with your actual laptop screen. Have you tried plugging your laptop into an external monitor to see if that works? Reply to Curseten |
