WMP:An Internal Application Error Has Occured

Posté par eric_deep, le Wednesday March 5, 2008 08:27:25 PM
Hello,

Windows Media Player hasn't done anything on my computer in a while. When i try to open a file in the program i get a message that says "An Internal Application Error Has Occured." and that's it. i really need help, i want to keep wmp but it's really not doing anything. i downloaded and tried to install the upgrade to version 9 from the microsoft.com website, only to recieve the very same error message halfway through the installation. i can't uninstall and reinstall the application, nor can i delete the files and programs manually. any suggestions??

edit: this happened a while ago, so i'm not sure what happened leading up to it. i just used real player for a while, but now i have files that will not work without wmp. the program is not in the add\remove programs list, and when trying to delete the files manually, they suddenly reappered in the folder just seconds later.

if anyone has any suggestions or questions that could help, i'd love to hear them.
thanks.
Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 2.0.0.12

Take a look at the Microsoft Knowledge Base article, Several dialog boxes are blank (it's the one quoted on the page Losecontrol4u linked to).

True to Microsoft tradition, an article about blank dialog boxes also addresses the error message (under the Symptoms heading), When you try to start Microsoft Windows Media Player, you may receive an "An internal application error has occurred" (or a similar) error message.

Running the regsvr32 commands listed on that page usually fixes the WMP problem.

devil_skater you are a life saver, I have been working on this problem for 2 hours and your suggestion of Microsoft article 831430 was what finally fixed the problem. I believe there must be spyware that unregisters jscript.dll and vbscript.dll. So more people get directed to this page, here are other symptoms that this article fixed.

1) When searching in Yahoo I was getting "Sorry, Bad Request."

2) When trying to run Norton Security check I was getting "To continue without JavaScript, click here."

3) The help->about internet Explorer was empty, it would not give me a version number or a product number.

for those of you with this problem, and the above fix only works on some user accounts on the PC:
-go into the user account that it works on (the that regsrv32 jscript.dll and regsvr32 vbscript.dll doesn't return error 0x8000400)
-open regedit (start/run type regedit <enter>)
-locate this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CLASSES\
-right click on it and select permissions
-add one of the other users to the permissions
-click on advanced and select "replace permissions on all child ... "
-press OK and it will propagate proper permissions to all keys under classes
-now you can go to the other user accounts and fix it with regsvr commands above.

seems something while installing/uninstalling corrupts the registry entries, and windows restores them only for the user that does the install/uninstall... so if you are getting the "unspecified error" when trying to preregister those DLL's to fix WMP, try all the users to find out which one is still working and follow my fix...

this is also a known bug when using widgets with Windowblinds, corrupting those registry keys on every boot.

hope this helps someone, thanks for the original info in the thread, helped me narrow my problem a lot and find the above fix!

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then click OK.

3. Click OK.

4. Click Start, and then click Run.

5. In the Open box, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll, and then click OK.

6. Click OK.

I have real player , wmp & winamp , but none of these will open any audio file and I kept real player as default.
when I click on any audio file, programme error message comes and and closes with white screen.
But the same audio file open if I open first real player and in that , if i browse the audio file .
When I open wmp , it shows an internal application error occured

Whenever I tried to open Window Media Player an Error message displays " An Internal Application has Occured" I really dont understand what to do. If someone knows about it pls let me know.

I will be grateful to you.
