Is my mac too old for this?

Hello,
i have a mac, but i dont know wat kind. everytime i try upgrading itunes or downloading new things it downloads and then says i cant be installed becuase i need a Mac OS X 10.4.9 or newer. What does that mean? do i need a new computer? because this computer already has itunes, safari and all that stuff.
